Pets Photography
In this article, you can learn how to take nice photos of your pets. If you follow these tips, you’ll become a pro pets photographer in no time.
Pets photography isn’t as easy as other forms of photography because the animals do not always want to cooperate. Here are some tips to help you make sure your pets photography is high quality.
Keep your lighting natural. Natural light provides the best environment for pet photography. When using natural light from outdoors or a room with a large window, you don’t need to use the flash. Flash generally causes red eye and may scare the animal. If the animal is scared, it will not likely agree to a photo shoot. Though natural light is best, you should also avoid direct sunlight because it can create a shadow, causing some features to hide from the picture. If your pet is an indoor only pet, always keep safety in mind first.

Go to the pets, rather than having them come to you. If a pet is calm and in his or her element, the photos you take will likely come out a lot better. Get down on their level and take a few photos from their point of view. Not only will they provide interesting perspective, but they’ll look great.
Surprise the pet. Pets will be hard to keep still. If you let them play quietly while you set up your camera and equipment, then have someone else call or whistle for them, you’ll leave yourself a few seconds to snap the perfect picture.
Make the pet’s eyes a focal point of the photo. Eyes are known as the windows to the soul, and therefore are an important part of every photo you take. By focusing on the animal’s eyes, you’ll be able to get a great picture with depth because of how expressive pet’s eyes tend to be.
Use close-up shots. If the photo is full of your animal and its fur, it will be a beautiful shot. Regardless of breed, there are many different markings and colorings making these close up photos very visually interesting.
Give them character. No one knows their pets better than the owners. Catch your pet in the middle of something he or she does often. For instance, if you cat loves to sit in the window sill and watch the outside world, take a photo of him when he’s not paying attention. These shots always turn out nice.

Don’t be afraid to experiment. Taking the perfect photo requires a lot of experimentation. Try several different things such as: changing lenses, varying angles, different compositions. The effort in finding the best shot will be worth it in the end.
Be patient. Pet photography requires patience. It will likely take several shots, several changes of settings and so forth to get one good shot. The more patient you are about working with the animal, the more responsive and relaxed the animal will likely be.
Schedule sessions. Don’t catch your pet in the middle of its most hyper period during the day. Start the photo session shortly after the pet has woken from its nap so he or she will be less likely to dart around and ruin the shot.
Remember, the most important part of pet photography is to keep the pet comfortable. In doing this, you’ll get better shots and prevent camera fear, so you can continue capturing good shots of your pet as he or she ages.
